🖋️ Bio
Born to Shanghainese parents, I grew up in Singapore and spent most of my life here.
My mum was an anime artist and my dad was a nuclear scientist before settling for very “Singaporean” jobs in their new life here - she became an accountant and he got an engineering job. I think my sister and I both inherited different sides of them. Shirley was always an artsy theatre kid obviously the cooler sister, while I spent three years doing Biochemistry research in a STEM high school. My last research paper was about differentiating stem cells from pigs. We were testing about 5 growth factors with entirely different timelines, which meant that I had to be in the lab at the most inopportune times like Friday nights and Saturday mornings. It was terrific fun, but at the end of it, I decided that academia wasn’t for me. Some part of me still loves watching nerdy YouTube videos on the weekends, but I’ve moved on to new things!
For the past year with GGV, I always get asked how I ended up in VC marketing. And my honest answer would be, by complete chance and serendipity. I was assistant to the Slush Singapore core team in my last year of college, where one job recommendation led to another, and here I am :D Its been a humbling time and I’m excited to see where whatever I do takes me.
