📺 Bio
Dutch by origin but spent most of my adult life in Asia since moving out to Bangkok in 2004 to finish my studies. Loved the place and was lucky enough to get a job in a travel company servicing overseas agents and doing plenty of "hotel inspections". After a brief stint in the UK I then headed out to Hong Kong for an MBA which led me onto an internship in Mongolia, an exchange semester at NUS in Singapore where I started working for Rocket Internet (they just started Zalora and Lazada at the time).
At Rocket I headed up the SEM team (search engine marketing) which was a skill I basically self taught ever since the internet launched. In my younger days I liked to build websites and even sold a few for some peanuts. After a short job with Li & Fung in Malaysia I then landed back in Singapore in 2012 where I joined a gaming startup called Nonstop Games, we got acquired by King Digital in 2015 yay! Then headed up another growth team at Travelmob which turned into HomeAway which in turn was acquired by Expedia before joining GGV in 2016.
At GGV I've been helping portfolio companies to scale their digital marketing efforts and doing so profitably (in other words not hand over all their budget to Google and Facebook). I've worked with many of our portfolio companies through the years like: 99.co, Carousell, Homage, MoneySmart, Alodokter, Grana, Hipvan, Servishero, Paper.id, Omise, Rovo and Printerous.
Besides tech I also have a long running interest in macro economic issues and from that interest I believe crypto currencies and the systems of trust they are built upon are a generational opportunity similar to how the internet disrupted major industries. As such I set up LuneX Ventures as part of GGV, a shared fund that invests exclusively into blockchain companies as well as liquid crypto assets. Bitcoin in particular is an amazing invention promising to separate money and state, allowing people to store their wealth free from inflation, confiscation and censorship and bringing about a more equitable world. Ask me about it, you'll not hear the end of it.
